Remembering a Gastroscopy Experience
I finally experienced a gastroscope at my age;
I have always been mystified by gastroscopes before, it feels weird to have something go in through my mouth and keep looking inside. Thought I’d be sick and dry-heaving if I were myself. However the experience was surprisingly good.
Background.
Let’s start with the background:
On my own, almost a week ago, after a run on an empty stomach, I came home and ate, and the next day I began to have some vague epigastric bloating and pain. It lasted for four or five days. I didn’t pay much attention to it at first because I used to feel bloated and sore for a while, and it went away after a while. Combined with a similar situation last year, went to the hospital, the doctor prescribed a few chronic gastritis medicine, after eating some good. So I didn’t take it seriously.
But this time it seems to be a bit serious, because every time after eating, the feeling is especially obvious, feel something blocked there. So I went to the hospital on Thursday to see what the cause was. The first time the doctor still felt that it was chronic gastritis, regulate it. But this time it was again felt that, in conjunction with last year, it was recommended to do a gastroscopy on myself to see what exactly was going on. Perhaps with more and more cases of cancer, I’m afraid that many people are also very worried about whether there will be such a situation, because early stomach cancer is very difficult to detect. Chances are, it’ll be mid to late stage by the time it’s diagnosed. So patients are psychologically particularly concerned and can actually try to have one.
Of course if you have supplemental health insurance, you can actually really try it and gastroscopy, although it’s also called an invasive procedure, it’s nowhere near as comparable as those routine procedures. Painless gastroscopies, in particular, are very quick and many people say they’re done in 30-45 minutes. If you’re older than 30, your doctor is also recommending a gastroscopy every 2-3 years if you’re able.
Here is another indicator, that is, C14 of the Helicobacter pylori infection test, if it is negative, you can not do it for the time being, because probabilistic analysis, the pylorus is not infected, and the probability of gastric lesions is relatively low.
I also feel that since I haven’t done it for so many years, I might as well give it a try.
Doctors usually need to give some tests when they prescribe a gastroscope, including routine blood tests and electrocardiograms. Electrocardiogram is also in order to cooperate with the anesthesia of the master of the surgery for anesthesia some assessment of the situation, these are very fast, I’m Thursday morning almost all finished, and then the doctor will give the appointment time, their appointment is next Tuesday morning. Because unless a special emergency situation, gastroscopy still need to queue, but feel this side of the okay, I could have been about Friday afternoon, but Friday afternoon, can’t eat breakfast or lunch, afraid of too hungry, or about the morning is better.
Painless gastroscopy is required to be accompanied by family members to observe, one is the effect of anesthesia, and the second is to help do a biopsy as well as find any abnormalities of further advice counseling and payment. This is because it is possible for the doctor to find an abnormality in the stomach that requires immediate surgery. There are a lot of people who start gastroscopy and have some surgery immediately upon discovery. But I don’t have any problems myself.
Procedure
Arrived at the hospital on Tuesday morning, the doctor confirmed the checklist report and all that and then informed to go in. Myself was first lying on the bed horizontally, the doctor gave a bottle of brown liquid and then told me to pack it in my mouth for a minute and then swallow it. It tasted very strange, and I can’t say it was bitter, but when I drank it myself, I started to get some numbness in my mouth. Then began to hang up an IV, I do not know what kind of liquid, did not wear glasses, can not see.
Just so lying almost 20 minutes like. The doctor then wheeled me into the operating room, an older doctor, and a couple of nurses, who confirmed my name and why I was having a gastroscopy.
A middle-aged doctor then told me to lie down on my side, and then adjusted the sanitary cloth under my head to prevent saliva from flowing out. I was then told to open my mouth wide and then hold a device in my mouth, which was supposed to hold up the mouth to make it easier for the gastroscope to reach in.
After the adjustments were made, the older doctor, injected a shot of reagent into the catheter for the infusion, and then the nurse said that if you felt sleepy, you could go to sleep. Then really I didn’t even think much of it and fell asleep.
“You can wake up.” And that’s how I was woken up.
I didn’t feel anything yet, so I completed the examination. Then the doctor said that the biopsy report will be taken in a week, and looking at the prognosis on the report, it should be chronic gastritis, conditioning is the main concern, and less coffee in the follow-up, especially the kind mixed with milk. Of course, it’s not a big problem, because I’ve never had a lot of coffee, but in the last year I’ve started to develop this habit, but I used to drink about two or three times a week.
Then I got out of bed and went to the doctor for report analysis. The doctor didn’t have much to recommend, just focus on a light diet and fewer drinks.
All in all, a false alarm, but also still recommend everyone, if the stomach upset can try to experience once, really super fast, completely exceeded my expectations, and there is no pain feeling.
